Kat
Lead Vocals

Katrina is a singer steeped in jazz, folk, blues and soul music. A Rose Bruford graduate, appearances include tours at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, Edinburgh Festival and the National Theatre.
​
Kat has sung dual lead vocals for the Blind Lemon Sole Band and Parkinson's Project, with whom she appeared at Gig in the Park annual music festival in Suffolk. Kat also enjoyed a brief period with acid jazz group The Persuaders. Recording work includes includes backing vocals for folk album 'Water on the Stone' and featured vocalist on French composer Hector Zazou's ambient album 'L'Absence'.

Rory
Saxophones, Flute

Phasma's writer, producer and saxophonist. Originally from Stroud in the south west, Rory's musical interests range from jazz and improvised music, to acid jazz, soul and funk, to Latin music, salsa and Brazilian jazz. In addition to Phasma, Rory performs in Latin groups Diáspora and Fiesta Latina, and Rory jazz and Bossa Nova ensembles.

Since graduating from the Royal Northern College of Music with a masters in saxophone, Rory relocated to London where he has since combined an active performing and recording schedule.

Neil
Trumpet

​Neil is a freelance trumpet player and teacher with over twenty years playing experience. Comfortable in most styles of music from Latin, jazz, classical, funk, salsa, his credits include numerous big bands, jive, jazz, funk, swing, function groups and production shows.

Neil loves bringing his passion and skills to Phasma and is a seasoned writer and arranger as well as performer and jazz improviser.

Nick
Piano, Keyboards

Originally from London, Nick has been playing keyboards professionally for five years since graduating from university where he studied jazz performance at Middlesex University, training with some of the finest musicians in the UK - Rob Townsend, Nikki Iles and Pete Churchill.

​He has had the experience of working alongside many great musicians around London - touring festivals around the UK with Digress, formed of musicians from the West End Production STOMP - and around the world, touring hotels and cruise liners in party band Atomic, The Val Kelly Quartet, and two production shows ‘Dream Voyage’ and ‘Extreme Country’ with Carnival Cruises.

​After a residency with Black and Gold at the Three Monkeys Club in Israel, Nick returned to the UK playing in various function bands including 29 Fingers and Soul Daddy, and supporting various artists including Emel Micheal at Pizza Express Jazz Club Soho, Tommy J and Crowd Company both at Camden’s Jazz Cafe. Nick has recorded alongside members of Herbie Hancock, The Rolling Stones, Oasis and Living Color.

Mark
Bass

A fully-trained bassist and pianist, Mark, originally from the east midlands, started out playing electric bass in his school’s big band, which included an album recording and a tour of Hong Kong.

After leaving school, Mark worked for a year in the music department of a Melbourne Grammar School, where he coached and performed with various ensembles.

​With Newcastle University Jazz Orchestra, Mark worked in a variety of genres ranging from jazz standards to funk and soul.

​Since moving to London, Mark continued his bass studies at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, graduating with a Higher Diploma in 2013 where he played a variety of gigs in the pop and rock circuit. Mark’s main influences are soul, hip hop, funk, reggae and rock. James Jamerson is his biggest influence as a bassist, as well as Esperanza Spalding, Derrick Hodge, Pino Palladino and Michael League (Snarky Puppy). Like most musicians, Mark listens to a wide variety of music, but cites The Roots, Erykah Badu, A Tribe Called Quest, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and D’Angelo as major influences on his music.

Tamas
​Drums


Tamas is a talented and versatile percussionist, pianist and vibraphonist from Hungary. Current roles include drums with 10-piece Afro-Latin-Funk production 7Suns and weekly jazz jams on vibes and drums in Stoke Newington.

An accomplished improviser on both kit and vibes, Tamas has lately worked with the Roberto Pla Latin Ensemble and cites Joe Locke (vibes), Joey Defrancesco (hammond organ), Pat Martino (guitar), John Patitucci (bass) and Kenwood Dennard (drums) as major influences on his music.

Harry
Percussion

​Hector “Harry” Hincapie, originally from Colombia, lived and worked in Barcelona for fifteen years as the lead percussionist for Paloqsea, a Latin American theatre company, performing annually in LatinAmericando Festival in Milan. In addition, he has worked with the Tutatis Theatre Company on the Cavals De Menorca Production, and at a famous street carnival in Nice, France.

Having moved from Barcelona to London, Harry is the only Red & Black musician to work with all 4 of its projects, including congas in Latin big band Diáspora and cajon in Fiesta Latina and Rory as well as percussion set in Phasma.

​Harry is also musical producer and kit player for The Tigers, one of the UK’s hottest emerging professional party bands delivering high energy performances with an international feel, performing alongside musicians from around the world and making crowds go wild.

Theresa
Backing Vocals

Imagine the love child of Ella Fitzgerald, Blossom Dearie, Corinne Bailey Rae and Aretha Franklin and you will have a beautiful and distinctive sound; a sound Theresa aspires to on a daily basis.

British-born and of Ugandan and Zimbabwean descent, Theresa Nyandoro was raised in Islington, London. ​With a penchant for jazz, a versatile voice and killer range, she draws from classical, soul, and pop influences to rework new and old jazz standards.

Backing Vocals

Claire has worked throughout London and the UK, singing jazz and show tunes, touring venues such as The Battersea Arts Centre, The Buxton Opera House, Albany Theatre Deptford, The Astor Theatre Deal, Birmingham Hippodrome, Marlborough Theatre Brighton, Theatre Royal Stratford, The 100 Club London, Leicester Square Theatre. Claire is also a regular at the famous historical variety pub The Royal Vauxhall Tavern and has toured with Frank Sanazi and his comedy troop around the UK.
